| Abstract: | During my internship with Bain & Company I got to know what it is to be a consultant and what a consultant does for the client. The whole length of my internship, except for the first week, I got to work in a team for one of the clients of the Amsterdam’s office. The first week of my internship was fully dedicated to trainings in which a large variety of topics were treated. The trainings made sure that I was packed with enough know how to start delivering results for the client from day one. Because of the type of work a strategy consultant does for its clients, the clients identity is never revealed by the consultant. All work done for the client is considered confidential. Even within the company of the client and within Bain not all information can be shared. For this reason this report only covers parts of the content of my work during my internship, albeit anonymized. Furthermore the report will cover the structured problem approach that is generally used within Bain. Additionally some of the consulting tools will be revealed which are vital to execute the job properly. Finally my reflection on my internship will be presented. It is important to realize that this internship is not one you would expect as a mechanical engineering internship. Strategy consulting is business oriented and although it does involve analytic thinking and mathematics, it is not engineering. For me however, this internship has been very useful since I got to experience what it is like to be an associate consultant at Bain. Furthermore the internship resulted in me getting a job offer, which is even better. |
