Abstract:After sketching the agri-food industry we took a closer look at the supply chain of wheat. From the fields of the farmers to the production locations of the traders the transportation is currently organised in a much decentralised manner. In order to come up with a model a toy problem is constructed to visualise the problem at hand and to narrow down the scale. With this toy problem a numerical model is drawn up to map out the consequences of broadening the view of the different actors. Step by step this model is expanded to include more variables and to take extra factors into account. In this manner a model representative of the reality is constructed. Next, the actual situation of the supply chain is analysed. Based on real life data the model, which was constructed based on the toy problem, is put into practice.
