Abstract:Introduction: The combination of high prevalence, extensive implications, pressure on health care costs and limited health care availability of stroke has led to current research. Current research focusses on the potential of e-health in the rehabilitation of stroke. The aim of this research is to study the experiences and expectations of stroke patients for computerized cognitive training. Method: Five stroke patients with cognitive impairments trained three times with seven tasks of the Neuro Personal Trainer. The training sessions consisted three times of the same design and all of the training sessions took place under guidance. Subsequently, the stroke patients were interviewed about their experiences. Results: This research shows that the Neuro Personal Trainer has been found usable by stroke patients. In addition, the results provide several areas for improvement. After adjustment of these improvements has occurred, stroke patients expect that the Neuro Personal Trainer can contribute to the recovery of cognitive functioning and quality of life. Conclusion: e-Health seems to be able to contribute in the rehabilitation process of stroke patients. Stroke patients, with mild cognitive impairment, adequate language comprehension and a taxability of at least 30 minutes, can train independently with the Neuro Personal Trainer after only one or two training sessions. Future research will show whether the expected effect in terms of cognitive functioning and quality of life are sustainable and generalizable.
