Abstract:In this study, the confidence of elderly in technology has been measured. Confidence in technology has been studied by two methods. The first method is to analyze by expressed emotions. The second method is to ask directly to confidence in technology in an interview. By means of these two methods the influence of the factors: gender, education and necessity on confidence has been researched. During this study, elderly have performed conversation by using an iPad. For making qualitative analyses elderly also are interviewed after the conversation. During the conversations via Ipad there have been made video recordings, which are used for analysis. During the analysis the expressed emotions are counted. For every factor the groups are compared to each other. The results show that the difference between the factor men and women and the factor high- or low educated has no significant difference. Though the interview shows that men have more confidence in technology. Low educated people also show more confidence in technology. All respondents declared that there is no necessity for use of technology at this moment. As a result there was not sufficient data available for further investigation for factor necessity. In short the expressed emotions are not an appropriate measure for confidence in technology.
