Abstract:Background: There is little research available of long-term evaluation of addiction treatment on effects of substance abuse, depression, anxiety, stress and craving. Research is available about alcohol but less about different drugs. Objective: Long-term evaluation of face-to-face addiction treatment with outcomes substance abuse, depression, anxiety, stress and craving 9 months after baseline. This study focuses on monthly substance abuse alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, cocaine and gamble. Methods: This is an research in practice with a pre- (baseline) and post design (9 months later). Respondents (n=514) are (ex-)cliënts of face-to-face treatments from Tactus Addiction treatment between September 2012 to July 2013. Questionnaire MATE was used at baseline and long term and were compared by t-tests and ANOVA on different outcomes. Coherence between craving with substance abuse and depression, anxiety, stress with craving were analyzed with regression and correlates. Results: Long-term monthly substance abuse were significantly decreased for alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, cocaine and gamble abuse. Results shows an significant predictive value of depression, anxiety and stress on craving at 9 months follow up (t=13.73, < 0.05; t=12.02, <0.05). Craving has significant coherence with monthly abuse of alcohol, cocaine, nicotine, cannabis and gamble. Depression, anxiety and stress shows an significant coherence with primary alcohol abuse, cannabis, cocaine, nicotine and gamble. Conclusions: Results of this study showed that face-to-face addiction treatment has positive effects on monthly substance abuse, depression, anxiety, stress and craving 9 months later. Moreover the appearance of depressive, anxiety, stress is a predictive value for craving 9 months after baseline. Craving correlate with an increase of monthly alcohol, cocaine, nicotine, cannabis abuse and gamble. Presence of depression, anxiety of stress leads to an increase in monthly abuse of alcohol, cannabis, cocaine and nicotine. The results of this search may be relevant to practical scientific knowledge and suggestions may possibly contribute to improvements for research.
