| Abstract: | Objective: Because of the increase of adolescents asking for help for their cannabis addiction and the negative consequences of their addiction for themselves, their environment and the society, this study was set up to evaluate substance abuse treatments within Tactus Addiction Treatment. The aim of this study was to determine if cannabis-alcohol and game-abuse could be reduced and if adolescents would report more participation in the society after a substance abuse treatment. Methods: With a pre- and posttest using the MATE-Y and the MATE-Y-Outcomes questionnaires with 124 adolescents aging from 12 to 23 years old substance abuse treatment were evaluated to see if their cannabis, alcohol and gaming addiction would decrease. Also to see if they would report more participation in the society. Results: Adolescents reported cannabis as their main substance abuse for getting in to treatment followed by alcohol and gaming. This study proved that cannabis-abuse among adolescents can be reduced after a substance abuse treatment. Also that alcohol- and game-abuse among adolescents can be reduced. For the participation in the society a significant decrease of problems was found only for important life areas. For the total score of participation and activity a significant decrease was found, because the part important life areas strongly influenced the total score. Conclusions: Substance abuse treatments within Tactus Addiction Treatment have been proven effective for adolescents with cannabis- alcohol and game-abuse. For the participation in the society substance abuse treatments have been proven effective only for important life areas, such as school/occupation and economic independence. |
