Abstract:This bachelorthese investigates which sources of information are used in different hazardous situations. Thereby a distiction is made between physical risks, terror attacks and health risks and between traditional and new media. 72 respondents participated in this study. The respondents are at the age of 17 to 28 years old and have primarily German or Dutch nationality. The respondents filled in a questionnaire that measured predictors as chance that a scenario happens, the seriousness of its consequences, the affect during an incident and the reliability of the sources of information. In addition the questionnaire measured to what extent the respondents would use the sources of information during the different scenarios. The results show that people make more use of traditional media and that the type op media that is used does not differ between the different scenarios. Furthermore the results show that only the predictor reliability of the source of information can predict the chance that people make use of traditional and new media.
