Abstract:Objective: this research focuses on the impact of schema therapy within a clinical setting for clients with personality problems. This research is innovative because it examines the change in modes and positive mental health within a clinical setting. It is examined whether the functional modes and will increase the positive mental health at the end of the targeted group treatment based on schema therapy or whether the dysfunctional modes and the complaints will decrease. In addition, we looked at the degree of effect sizes around the evaluation of the treatment based on schema therapy within a clinical group setting. This evaluation is very important because the concerning target group has had many treatments with insufficient effects. Method: for the implementation of this research three self-report lists have been used: the ' Inventory ' Schema Mode – SMI, the ' Letter Symptom Inventory BSI and the Mental Health Continuum ' – Short Form '-MHC-SF. These instruments are used at the beginning and at the end of the treatment for male and female clients between the ages of 18 and 44 years old, with on average age of 27 years old. To understand the change after the treatment paired t-tests have been carried out and a correlation analysis has been carried out as well in order to observe possible coherence between the different variables. The effect size has been calculated using Cohen's d. Results: a significant decrease has been observed in the dysfunctional modes and complaints and a significant improvement with respect to the functional modes and the positive mental health. The functional modes show the biggest change with regard to “the happy child" and the largest decrease in the dysfunctional modes is visible with “the vulnerable child and “the will-less lenient ". In addition, depression shows a large reduction in the complaints and a big change has occurred on the subscale of psychological well-being. Conclusion: The results found in this study have shown that schema therapy in a clinical setting showed significant improvements in the functional modes and positive mental health, and allows a significant reduction in symptoms and dysfunctional modes show. The results within a clinical setting are innovative, which also applies to the positive mental health. Promoting positive mental health in the future may have a possible preventive effect on preventing a possible relapse.
