Abstract:This study deals with the learning effect of an ‘review’ at the end of instructive video tutorials of software training. In total 55 pupils between the ages of 8 and 13 were assigned to two different independent tutorial conditions. The study included an experimental group and a control group. If assigned to the experimental group, the pupils had to work on Microsoft Word files with the help of an instructive video with a following ‘review’. In contrast the control group had to work on the Microsoft Word files with the help of the instructive video but were not allowed to review it. The study consisted out of three sessions, each consisting of four tests: a pre-test, training with post-test, retention-test and transfer-test. The results of the pretest were low scores on task- relevance and ‘task performance’. The experimental group showed a significant higher score on ‘task performance’ than the control group. The posttest and the retention test gave assimilable results. There was no difference between the conditions on motivation during and after the training. With regard to the transfertest there were no significant differences between the conditions.
