Abstract:Positive psychology focuses on psychological well-being and optimal functioning by improving positive emotions and decreasing negative symptoms. Web-based psychological interventions are an effective technique to increase emotional well-being. They are cost effective, can be done everywhere and avoid long waiting lists. This online study lasts only seven days to gain insight in the effects of very short- term interventions. Furthermore it aims to illustrate the differences in effectiveness for extrovert and introvert participants because personality traits were expected to influence the effect of intervention. During the study 44 participants took part in the one-week web-based psychological intervention ‘three good things’. Participants answered the PANAS scale before and after the intervention. Participants received a personality questionnaire (BFI) before they started with the intervention to divide participants in ‘extrovert’ and ‘introvert’. A paired sample t-test examined the main effectiveness of the intervention. The relationship between extroversion/introversion and the effectiveness of the intervention was conducted with a prediction analysis of the program PROCESS. The results showed that positive affect did not increase. However a significant decrease of negative affect was found. Furthermore, there was no prediction effect of extraversion/introversion concerning the working of the intervention. Participation on this short- term intervention does not lead to an increase of positive emotions but is successful in decreasing the negative emotions within one week. This effect justifies to do further research in the field of short-term web-based positive psychology interventions.
