Abstract:This experiment investigates the needs for emotional help from a third party in a work place conflict. There was expected more need of emotional help from a formal third party when the participants feel conflictasymmetry (when party A feels more conflict than party B). Also we expected a greater need of emotional help from a third party when participants felt threatened in a work place conflict. At final we expected a combined influence of threat and conflictasymmetry on the needs of emotional help from a third party. For this we found a marginal significant effect, but only when feelings of threat were low. An implication is that high levels of threat make discripancies in conflictasymmetry irrelevant. Throughout a regression analyses we found no significant effect of conflictasymmetry on the needs for emotional help from a third party. We do found a significant effect for threat on the need of emotional help from a third party.
