Abstract:Acceptance- and mindfulness- based interventions as Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR), Mindfulness- Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are new generation of Cognitive- Behavioral Therapies for the treatment of chronic pain. To evaluate the effectiveness of acceptance- and mindfulness- based interventions on patients with chronic pain, a systematic review was conducted. Outcome measures were pain intensity, physical wellbeing and quality of life. Twenty- four randomized controlled trials were included, totaling 1521 patients with chronic pain. Based on the results, it can be concluded that acceptance- and mindfulness- based interventions may have a positive effect on pain intensity, physical wellbeing and quality of life in patients with chronic pain. Additionally, mindfulness- based interventions may have a superior effect than acceptance- based interventions on pain intensity. This review found limited evidence for the effectiveness of acceptance- based interventions on physical wellbeing and quality of life. A following meta- analysis and more high- quality studies are recommended to produce more differentiated and validated findings.
