Abstract:In this study, transcribed life review therapy sessions are analysed, to see to which extent elderly produce specific memories in such a therapy. To see whether there are background variables which are linked to specificity, whether training helps to retrieve specific memories and whether there are ways of questioning which are helpful in this respect. Through analysing this, more clarity is obtained about which factors may have an influence on the effectiveness of the life review therapy. The outcomes can be used to optimize existing life review therapies. The results indicate that in 42,9% of all cases elderly produce a specific memory. All researched background variables turn out to have a link with the extent of specificity. In this research there are two question types which turn out to have a positive link with the retrieval of specific memories: multiple choice questions and clarifying questions. Two question types turn out to have a negative link with the retrieval of specific memories: open type protocol questions and pursue questions. In this research no evidence was found for development in recalling specific memories as the course progresses.
