| Abstract: | Objective: This study assesses the ‘EdB-diagnoselijst’, an online self-report questionnaire of the Dutch online intervention Etendebaas to its validity. The study aim was to determine if the ‘EdB-diagnoselijst’ is accurate in diagnosing a DSM-IV type eating disorder. Method: Diagnoses made by a ‘gold standard’, a face-to-face intake process of a specialist center of eating disorders, were compared with diagnoses made by the online questionnaire. The sample of the study was 63 clients. Validity was determined with percentages of agreement, scores of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and ROC curves. Results: Results indicated a high validity of the ‘EdB-diagnoselijst’ for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, boulimia nervosa and eating disorder not otherwise specified. Percentages of agreement ranged from 87.3% to 93.65%. Scores of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value ranged from 0.66 to 0.98. The validity of the ‘EdB-diagnoselijst’ decreased if the questionnaire also made the diagnosis binge eating disorder, added in the DSM-IV research criteria. Conclusion: The ‘EdB-diagnoselijst’ is a valid instrument for diagnosing a DSM-IV type eating disorder; except for the diagnosis of binge eating disorder. The questionnaire is an appropriate self-report instrument for the online intervention Etendebaas. |
