| Abstract: | The term loverboy is not new, we have known this phenomenon since 1995. The current idea of what a loverboy is and what he does, is still the image that has been built up since then. It is that of a cocky guy with an expensive car, who hits on girls and seduces them with presents and so called ‘love’, while in the end, all he wants is to exploit them in prostitution. This is still happening, but nowadays 50% of the recruitment starts on the internet. This mostly occurs on social network sites like Facebook, Hyves and Tagged. With this change in recruiting methods, it is important that education and prevention also adjust their approach to prevent girls from being a victim of a loverboy. To do so, it is important to know if there are features that make it more likely for girls to become a victim of a loverboy. There are already some features known to make it more likely for a girl to become a victim, but these features are mostly demographic. This research focuses on personality features that heighten the risk of becoming a loverboy victim. A questionnaire was designed in which seven personality features were measured and also the chance that a girl accepts the proposals of a (digital) loverboy. 96 students in the age of 15 and 16 took the questionnaire. In contrary to what we expected in advance, there was no coherence found between the measured personality features and the chance that a girl accepts the proposals of a loverboy. The research did show that among the respondents, there is a tendency to accept the proposals of a loverboy. |
