| Abstract: | Knowledge Management (KM) has been increasingly discussed by many scholars and captured the interest of practitioners. Knowledge sharing (KS) is one fundamental aspect in organization knowledge management (KM) practice. It bridges the process of acquisition and utilization of individual knowledge. The emerging approach of KS suggests that KS can not be managed but evolves in rich social interaction whereas the engineering approach assumes that KS can be stimulated by creating conditions (structures and tools) for the process to occur. The study focuses its attention on technical and social dimensions effect on intention to share knowledge (knowledge sharing intention) via intranet, not the actual behavior regarding knowledge sharing. This concept is different since intention to share does not always followed by actual action of sharing. We developed a theoretical model based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Social Capital theory. TAM is used to explain the technical dimension through perceived quality of the intranet whereas SC theory is used to explore social (i.e. structural, cognitive, and relational) dimensions of the social network interaction on the intranet. Through administration of online survey questionnaire as well as close observation to organization intranet system, we test our hypotheses. Moreover, we also gain insight on the actual utilization of intranet with regards to KS purpose. The result of our study reveals that some factors of the social and technical dimension do predict the variation in employees’ intention to share knowledge via intranet (i.e. knowledge sharing intention). Besides contributing to theory building in KS, the results of this study inform practitioner on KS practice. |
