Abstract:Aim: The research aims to point out the influence of psychological factors, personality, achievement motivation, procrastination and the social network on study success and study preferences. Background: Universities in the Netherlands are adjusting their educational system, to emend the study returns. For students, these changes mean that they are faced with more intense study forms. Already there are a lot of researches that look into the identification of factors that influence study success. But what students think of these changes haven„t been researched yet. Changes that students aren„t content with can have a counterproductive impact. To avoid this, you have to ask students which teaching methods they prefer and how preferences and study success is influenced by psychological factors. Methods: A questionnaire for this research had been developed and allocated by Sona-Systems, an online responding pool of University Twente (Enschede, Netherlands). The respondents received 0,5 credit points for their participation. 109 psychology students take part of this research. Results: There is a significant correlation between study success and the personality trait „conscientiousness“. Another significant correlation between communication and studysucces was confirmed. Conclusion: According to the research study success correlates with two factors: one of them is personality, especially the personality trait „conscientiousness“, the other one is the communication of students about their studies. Both seem to have a positive influence on study success. No correlation between psychological factors and study preferences could be found, but there is a hint that students prefer subjects of studies with medium intensity.
