Abstract:In this thesis the investigation on the relation between the evaluation of a publication on the quality of hospital care, ‘Het resultaat telt’ (The result counts), and the intention to manage risks among the target groups of ‘Het resultaat telt’ is described. The investigation originated based on the question of the Dutch Health Care Inspectorate, who wanted to learn what influence ‘Het resultaat telt’ has. Based on literature a conceptual frame was composed, existing of the following parts: - the attitude to risks in health care - the evaluation of a publication on the quality of health care o the evaluation of the quality of data in the publication o the importance of quality in hospital culture - the intention to manage risks The investigation was executed among the target groups of ‘Het resultaat telt’, by a web-based survey and face-to-face interviews. The target groups of the investigation were the inspectors, hospital management, medical specialists and quality employers of the hospitals. Based on the investigation can be concluded that if respondents think risks in health care are based on qualitative assessments they evaluate the publication less positive. This is also the case if respondents think risks in health care are objective. The evaluation of the data quality from a publication and the importance of quality in hospital culture predict the evaluation of a publication on the quality of health care. A better evaluation of ‘Het resultaat telt’, at last, is associated with a greater intention to manage risks. The investigation conducted was an explorative investigation. Prior no investigation was conducted on the use of a publication on the quality of care among so many target groups. This investigation provides clear conclusions with regard to publication on the quality of health care and can be considered as a benchmark. Follow-up studies are necessary to extend the results of this investigation.
