Abstract:Objectives: The main objective of this study is the question whether the participants’ wellbeing improves after the training Mindfit. Mindfit is a newly developed training for mental skills, such as attention, flow, optimism and emotion regulation and is based on de concept of positive psychology. These skills should enable the participants to deal with stress and negative emotions in a more effective way and to enhance the positive way of thinking as well as positive emotions. The research questions are which people are actually taking part in this training and whether the amount of stress, positive and negative emotions, emotional, social and psychological well-being and satisfaction with life changes in a beneficial way. Moreover, the participants’ satisfaction with the training is assessed, which forms the foundation of the suggestions for improvement. Methods: In order to assess the level of stress of 15 participants the distress part of the 4DKL was used. The SWLS was chosen to examine the satisfaction with life, the PANAS for positive and negative emotions and the MHC-SF for emotional, social and psychological well-being. These questionnaires were administered before and after the training in order to evaluate a difference. Additionally, the participants were asked to fill in another questionnaire regarding their satisfaction with organizational and contextual aspects of the training. Results: Using a significance level of 0.1 the data of this sample shows no significant effect with regard to the influence of Mindfit on the level of stress (Z(13)=-0.4, p=0.33), satisfaction with life (Z(13)=-0.7, p=0.23), emotional (Z(13)=1.1, p=0.13) and social well-being (Z(13)=-1.2, p=0.12). However, the effects on positive (Z(13)=-1.3, p=0.09) and negative emotions (Z(13)=-1.5, p=0.06) and psychological wellbeing are significant (Z(13)=-1.9, p=0.03). The results concerning the participants’ satisfaction with the training are overall positive as well (Z=1.5, p=0.01). Conclusion: Despite the small size of the effects the data indicates an improvement in positive and negative emotions as well as psychological well-being after the training. The participants are overall content with the training, but would like to see changes with regard to organizational aspects, such as the location and the number of gatherings. Further research with a bigger sample size is advisable in order to obtain more reliable data on the effects of Mindfit. Nevertheless, the Mindfit training shows great potential to enhance people’s well-being.
