Abstract:Risk behavior is behavior of a person by which the risk exists of doing damage to objects, others or oneself. Intellectually disabled people are increasingly displaying this behavior and it is, therefore, important to do something about it. The current treatments are not sufficient for directly offering clients tailored care. Screening before the allocation of a client is a possible solution. Care provider Aveleijn is, therefore, working on a screening instrument for risk behavior in intellectually disabled. This „risk scan‟ is the central topic in this research. The research consists of three parts. First, it has been inquired how the risk scan can be used. For six clients the risk scan has been filled out in two different ways. By analyzing the clients dossier and by interviewing the clients contact person. These two methods have been evaluated and compared between them. Both dossier analysis and the interview with the contact person do not appear to be optimal. With the dossier analysis one cannot construct a complete picture of the risk behavior of the client. An interview with the contact person, however, does not allow for sufficient nuance and its set-up is too negative. Combinations of these two could be a proper alternative. Second, with aid of correlationanalysis it has been inquired whether the scores of the riskscan are predictive for actual risk behavior in the following ten months. For this, the registration system SOAS-R has been used, which is used by Aveleijn for registering incidents. The scores from the risk scan and from SOAS-R have been compared for an aselect group of 223 clients. This, however, showed that the predictive validity of the risk for incidents at SOAS-R in the following ten months is low. More research into this is needed. Third, it has been inquired how the risk scan can best be implemented. Interviews with four stakeholders showed that for the implementation special attention is needed for the communication within the organization. All members will have to work with the risk scan in the same way. Next to that, the management team will have to pass on its enthusiasm for the risk scan to the organization with good promotion. Aveleijn will also have to consider the load of the client and contact person. This needs to be as low as possible. It is positive that the importance of the riskscan is recognized by all stakeholders. Next to that, within the organization there seem to be sufficient knowledge and skills and sufficient resources available for implementation.
