Abstract:Patient self care has the potential to contribute to the quality of care. One of the realisations of self care interventions is the possibility for chronic patients to use in vitro diagnostic selftests (IVD) for therapy management. The possibility to manage therapy in a more easy and convenient way will potentially result in higher patient satisfaction and by this increase adherence to therapy which consequently increases the accuracy of therapy. In addition, selftests can be very important to the quality of life of chronic patients because they allow them to monitor their condition and manage their therapy, without having to make frequent doctors and lab visits or risking their health. Because of the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions and the high burden associated with it, this study aims to answer to following question: “Can IVD selftests for therapy management contribute to the quality of care for patients with chronic conditions?”. To answer this question a systematic literature review is conducted in the electronic database PubMed based on a condition-specific search strategy.
