Abstract:Alcohol abuse among people with an intellectual disability can pose several threats. Behavioural problems like criminal behaviour, antisocial and aggressive behaviour are all related to alcohol usage. Furthermore, current explicit measurements cannot easily be used in relation to the cognitive, social and practical problems. Based on current research, implicit association tests like the Approach Avoidance Test can give new insights in addiction among people with an intellectual disability. These studies indicate that, when using an approach avoidance task, group differences between high alcohol drinkers, social drinkers and non drinkers can be found. This study investigates the feasibility of an implicit association test among people with an intellectual disability.
