Abstract:In this report, the process of designing a boiler start up program will be discussed. The making of the program was done as an internship for the NEM. The NEM develops industrial boilers for, for example, electricity production. For clients wanting to buy a boiler it is useful to know how fast it is safe to start up a boiler. When it is brought to full operation too fast, high stresses, and possible failure, can occur due to a too fast rise of temperature and pressure. The data needed to be able to have a good overview of the start up of a boiler should be presented graphically and as clean data. For this purpose, the program K028 was written. It has a user-friendly interface with error checks for all data entered by the user. Different variables can be tweaked to get a proper result for the start up time. The data generated, result of thermodynamic calculations, is presented in an export file in an orderly fashion in order to make the file suitable for importing in a program such as Excel. By importing the data, a graph can be made of the different calculated temperatures of the components of a boiler system as well as the produced steam and pressure rise. To be sure that the program generates reliable and realistic results the generated results need verification and possible refining in future. However, the present results seem promising.
