Abstract:	Research shows that there are some health differences among different ethnicities. In general, the health of the population with a foreign background is worse than the health of the local population. There are however some favourable differences in health among the two populations. Adolescents with a foreign background drink less alcohol than Dutch adolescents. Furthermore, research shows that Dutch adolescents are physically more active than adolescents with a foreign background. Concerning smoking there are no differences among the two populations. This study aims to measure the explanatory value of two models: the Theory of Planned Behaviour and the Prototype/Willingness Model. The idea behind this is that behaviour is both intentional and non-intentional. Behaviour can be explained by conscious and unconscious processes. This study measures three health behaviours: alcohol use, physical activity and smoking. The research populations consists of Turkish and Dutch adolescents. This way it is possible to see if culture influences health behaviour. In the current study a questionnaire was filled out by people from age 15 to 25. the results show some interesting findings. The Theory of Planned Behaviour predicts alcohol use better for Dutch adolescents. On the other hand, Prototype/Willingness Model predicts alcohol use better for Turkish adolescents. Furthermore, both models seem to predict smoking very good. Another remarkable finding is that there are no significant differences in physical activity among Turkish and Dutch adolescents
