Abstract:It is assumed that the truth can not be revealed efficiently through interrogation. This being the case, suspects are often acquitted of their crimes. Given these facts, it is also often stipulated that innocent suspects are prosecuted undeserved. The objective of this paper is to determine whether you are able to distinguish deception from fact in an individual’s affidavit by their respective personal traits. To date, there have not been any objective studies conducted in which both truthful and deceitful individual testimonies have been examined. The significance of this study is that you can examine the contrast between deception, false confessions and persons who speak the truth more accurately.Through the findings of this study we can conclude that individuals, who use deception in contrast to those individuals who use false confessions or speak the truth, score relatively higher anxiety levels while at the same time score lower levels in altruism, conscientiousness, suggestibility and self-esteem. On the other hand individuals who use false confessions, in contrast to those who speak the truth or use deception score relatively lower when measuring self-esteem, and relatively high on attributes such as neuroticism, openness, altruism, compliance, anxiety, memory distrust and global belief in a just world.
