Abstract:This article describes the relationship between ecstasy use, psychological determinants and personality with respect to differences in ever use of ecstasy and the frequency of usage. The research has taken place during a festival at a University. The personality is measured through the NEO Five Factor Inventory and the Substance Use Risk Profile Scale. The presented theoretical model in the research provides a good fit for the explanation of ecstasy use. However cognitive factors such as experiences, expectations and intention seem to have greater impact on ecstasy use in the theoretical model than personality and demographic factors. In spite of this personality has a potential relationship with ecstasy use. Higher scores on the personality dimensions extraversion and openness of the NEO-FFI and lower scores on the personality dimension neuroticism are connected to ever ecstasy use. Higher scores on the dimension sensation seeking and lower scores on the anxiety sensitivity dimension of the SURPS are related to the frequency of ecstasy use.
