Abstract:Civil-Military Interaction is of a growing importance for the Dutch armed forces. Complex and comprehensive missions have introduced civilian aspects to military tasks and operations. A good example of this is the reconstruction-focused mission in Uruzgan, Afghanistan. An important aspect of this reconstruction effort are construction works. Its visibility and tangibility add an extra symbolic dimension to the utility of the construction. A complex but determining factor for the project‘s success is the contracting process. The objective of this research is to improve insight in the contracting process of construction projects in regions that suffer from instability and armed conflict. The research focused on the specific setting of Civil Military Interaction (CMI) and aimed to optimize its use. The core question is: ―Which decision-making model can lead to improved contracting for CMI related construction projects?
